What do you do when you feel like writing something other than a historical romance? You take a break from the ballrooms in London and write a story about a haunted house on the Oregon Coast.
David Hawkins thought he was the only one living in his Victorian house.
He should have known better.
Haunted houses always have ghosts!
Beginning of Chapter 1
Coos Bay, Oregon
Present Day
David Hawkins woke up. Someone or something was in bed with him. A woman emerged from beneath the gold quilt—strawberry-blond hair, pink cheeks, and red lips. She pushed herself into a sitting position, leaned back against the headboard, and stroked the lace on the top of her nightgown; pink and sexy, with tiny straps over her shoulders.
He lived alone. There shouldn’t be anyone in his house and definitely no one in his bed. Was the woman a ghost? His neighbors, when he moved into his newly purchased Victorian house last week, had been quick to inform him that his house was haunted. They had seen a blue flame float out of the upstairs tower room and dart around the towering Douglas fir trees in his yard—no mention of a woman ghost.
David limped to the other side of the four-poster bed, leaned forward, and brushed his finger across the woman’s bare shoulder. The woman jerked back and glowered at him. He muttered an apology for his ghost checking. The woman was human—her skin was soft, not the clammy skin of a ghost. Of course, he truly didn’t know what the skin of a ghost felt like since he had never touched one.
Spirit, unlike ghosts, have completely passed into the afterlife. Many believe the difference between a living person and a spirit is that the living are on earth and the spirit is in a paralleled universe. It is believed that spirit often leave signs of their presence, and if ignored, will come to a person in a dream.
For hundreds of years people have tried to communicate with spirits. There are websites selling equipment worldwide for detecting a spirit or ghost. A Spirit Box sells for around $500. The box is used to pick up verbal communications of spirits. They are designed from handheld radios; the part that stops when you hit a particular frequency is disabled. The radio will continually jump from one station to another, often bouncing through one frequency after another in under a few second.
Spirit Boxes are paired with an Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) Recorder, which enables a paranormal seekers to replay and piece together the responses from spirits after having asked them questions.
Ghosts have passed to the afterlife due to a violent death or tragic passing, but do not completely go into afterlife. Their soul are partially earthbound and they may interaction with living people. Some are known to cause mischief like shutting and opening doors, ringing doorbells, knocking noises, and other out of the ordinary occurrences that are unexplainable.
It is thought that the instant a person passes away the spirit, memories, personality, the essences of the person escapes the body and continue to live on. Ghosts stay in a particular place, like the house where they died, because of a compelling reason such as an lingering need to be in the physical world.
Sasquatch, a large, hairy, human like creature may live in the northwestern United States and western Canada. The name “Sasquatch” derives from the Salish word se’sxac, which means “wild men.” The creature is also called Bigfoot. Photos and videos (notably by Roger Patterson at Bluff Creek, California, in 1967) have added to the legend, though none of the purported evidence has been verified. There have many recording of howling noises by Sasquatches and sightings.
